On June 13, 1995, Alanis Morissette released Jagged Little Pill. I must have listened to JLP on CD hundreds of times over the next year. I had a miserable year including a breakup and that album was my soundtrack.
Honestly I haven’t listened to JLP since then until preparing to review the Deluxe Edition for my blog.
The amazing thing about music is it is an emotional time machine. I was propelled back to that tumultuous year and I didn’t particularly like it.
As for the Deluxe Edition, it begins with the complete album remastered. The songs are more polished and less gritty than I remembered. The original via my CD seemed more jarring and raw. They are actually nicely remastered though.
Next is the demos written by Alanis during that time period. The third part is the album done acoustically and the final part is live at Subterranea London on 9-28-95. If you are a die hard Alanis fan you will love this. But I just couldn’t get into all the extra features.
Thank you, Alanis Morissette for helping me through a difficult year, though.
Alanis wrote a revealing blog about the JLP process. It’s a good read! More info at alanis.com and the Deluxe Edition is available on iTunes and Amazon.
That album got me through high school, I’ve been a fan since JLP. Great review.
Thank you, Adina. I’m glad JLP was there for you.
