#KonmariMethod and how it’s changed my life

mariekondo
After reading Marie Kondo’s bestseller I have been applying the Konmari method to cleaning up the clutter in my home. It really is as simple as asking yourself: Does this item spark joy for me. If yes, keep it and place it in the proper location. If not, thank it for it’s service to you and eliminate it.
I can’t begin to tell you how therapeutic this has been for me, especially since I am grieving two cats who passed away this year.

Here are some pictures of my inspiration and ways I have transformed my home:

These are my favorite DVDs and below are Hamlet and Lucy and a Thank You photo from Clinton/Gore for support. (I volunteered in 1992 at the NYC campaign office prior to the election.)

My favorite cards that are sentimental on display on top of my dresser drawers.

I cleaned out my foyer closet. I put my best shoes on the bookshelf and placed accessories (hats, gloves, umbrellas, etc.) in an over-the-door clear plastic shoe organizer.

What did not spark joy from my closet and on its way out.

Good luck to anyone who’s trying the Konmari Method! If you have, please share what it was like for you.

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome! Fremde, etranger, stranger. Gluklich zu sehen, je suis enchante, happy to see you. Bleibe, reste, stay. -Cabaret

I started this blog in March 2014, but I never introduced myself or my blog or welcomed my readers. Why am I doing this now? I’m taking Blogging 101, an online course from WordPress, and this is my first assignment.

My name is Jill, and I’m a Native New Yorker. I began this post with lyrics from Cabaret because first, I love the musical, and second, this blog has been read by individuals from over 20 countries so why not have a more international welcome.

I named my blog JillyPopMusic because it’s about me, pop culture, and music. I am fan and supporter of independent music and write about bands I like and shows I go to. My goal is to write about film, television and books more and to write more frequently. I also would like to interact more with other bloggers.

Thank you for reading! I hope you’ll take a look around my blog and read some posts and come back and read some more.
