Tamtam – Old Soul

tamtam-v1

Based in L.A. and raised between the Middle East and the West, Tamtam strives to serve as a musical bridge between these two regions. Her profound lyrics and her strong message stand out in today’s sea of music artists, where she presents to music lovers around the world a message of empowerment that encourages all people to use their voice to create positive change.

Her musical journey continues with her latest single Old Soul. The video for Old Soul is like a short film with the song as its soundtrack. Old Soul is a song about not letting time dictate how we feel about ourselves or what we can do with our lives, because it’s never too late. This song displays Tamtam’s talents, not only as a singer, but also as a strong songwriter with a unique and unifying musical energy.

Saint Adeline – Status Quo

saintadeline

NYC-based Saint Adeline is a close-knit indie band consisting of siblings Drew, Kasie and Chloe Gasparini. Though they’ve each pursued different outlets for artistic expression – Drew as a composer, Kasie as an actress, and Chloe as a solo artist – music has always brought them together, and Saint Adeline merges their eclectic passions into one beautiful sound.

A lifetime of practice became a reality October 2015, when the siblings finally joined forces to form Saint Adeline. The formation of the group happened almost by chance, when Drew asked Kasie and Chloe to join him on stage at Webster Hall. The chemistry between them was undeniable, and they knew right then that they had something special. To the trio, Saint Adeline is home. They write from the heart, they write from experience. The siblings’ bond solidify and strengthen their band and music. Given their varied backgrounds they each bring something different to the sound of the group.

“Status Quo” is a lively, harmony-filled folk-rock song off of Saint Adeline’s upcoming self-titled EP. Their sound is reminiscient of The Lumineers. Saint Adeline recently played at The Highline Ballroom and have an upcoming show at Rockwood Music Hall, one of my favorite venues, on December 15.

The Grand Undoing – Sparks Rain Down From The Lights of Love

grandundoing

The Grand Undoing’s sophomore LP, Sparks Rain Down From The Lights of Love, releases today on Secret Candy Rock Records. Their sound is highly unique yet reminiscent of 70’s era David Bowie, Elvis Costello, the pop of The Raspberries and angst of Morrissey.

Seth Goodman, who records as The Grand Undoing, has two extreme passions in life: drinking sparkling wine and creating psychedelic post-rock Americana confronting alienation and mortality. This strange mix, the bubbly and brooding, creates an incredible musical cocktail.

An only child, Goodman leaned hard on his record player while coming of age just outside of Boston. The area’s free-form college radio and vibrant club scene also had a profound effect. The final piece fell into place later in life when Goodman developed a deep affinity for classic country and roots music. All these influences would swirl and collide with his deeply entrenched outsider’s sensibility to form The Grand Undoing’s distinctive sound.

When reflecting on the heady topics presented in the new material, Goodman explains that the end result is meant to uplift and inspire. He hopes The Grand Undoing’s music will provide a cinematic escape, make great driving music, or be the perfect accompaniment to a bottle of sparkling wine.

Kylie Odetta – Dangerous Woman / This Is What You Came For / Give Me Love (MASH UP)

kylieodetta

Today singer-songwriter Kylie Odetta released her new video, a mash-up of current pop songs done in her own jazzy and blues style. It’s a really cool effect and produced seamlessly. I really love Kylie’s intepretation. Kylie describes the process of making the video:

“Making the arrangement for this song and then recording the video was a really unique and collaborative experience for me. I found it very inspiring to take songs that have already been produced in the way the artist intended and then completely create a new vibe and sound. It’s a much more emotional and dark feel than the original songs and having some super swells on the electric guitar as well as select drum parts adds to the dramatic pull of the song. I hope that people dig it just as much as I do!”

I wrote about Kylie back in February, when she released her EP High Dreamer. You can read the profile here.

High Dreamer is available on iTunes and SoundCloud.

Fun. – Carry On

I’m so inspired by this song by the band Fun. I’ve had a difficult week and tonight I was looking through songs trying to find something with a little grit to it to inspire me – I have about 7 blog posts queued up that I must get working on. Sometimes you find that perfect song for exactly how you’re feeling and this is it. Lyrics below:

Well I woke up to the sound of silence
The cars were cutting like knives in a fist fight
And I found you with a bottle of wine
Your head in the curtains
And heart like the Fourth of July

You swore and said
We are not
We are not shining stars
This I know
I never said we are

Though I’ve never been through hell like that
I’ve closed enough windows
To know you can never look back

If you’re lost and alone
Or you’re sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Carry on, carry on

So I met up with some friends
At the edge of the night
At a bar off 75
And we talked and talked
About how our parents will die
All our neighbours and wives

But I like to think
I can cheat it all
To make up for the times I’ve been cheated on
And it’s nice to know
When I was left for dead
I was found and now I don’t roam these streets
I am not the ghost you want of me

If you’re lost and alone
Or you’re sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Woah
My head is on fire
But my legs are fine
Cause after all they are mine
Lay your clothes down on the floor
Close the door
Hold the phone
Show me how
No one’s ever gonna stop us now

Cause we are
We are shining stars
We are invincible
We are who we are
On our darkest day
When we’re miles away
So we’ll come
We will find our way home

If you’re lost and alone
Or you’re sinking like a stone
Carry on
May your past be the sound
Of your feet upon the ground
Carry on

Carry on, carry on

Victor Perry – 4 A.M. Nostalgia (EP)

victorperry3

Indie singer-songwriter Victor Perry defies genres in his romantic and heartbreaking EP 4 A.M. Nostalgia. At 22, the Thomasville, Georgia native combines rural gospel roots with modern influences of Adele, Sia and Coldplay to create his unique voice.

Lead track “Rainbows” displays Perry’s lyrical talents as he takes you on a musical journey through his broken heart. Perry’s vocal range seems to be endless. Love is complicated, and saying goodbye is sometimes inevitable, which Perry shows on the track “Leave.” “Lighthouse” uses lovely metaphors for his tale of a girl’s complicated feelings and is my favorite track on the EP. “It’s hard to imagine a you without me/Run through my veins and let me be,” sings Perry on the final track “Nostalgia.” It’s a perfect end to the EP as Perry wants to be free of heartbreak and nostalgia that is so relatable.

Weslynn – Strange Feelings (Official Music Video)

Indie rock band Weslynn released the official music video for “Strange Feelings” today. It’s the catchy first single from their upcoming sophomore EP Black and Champagne, which will be released by For Emily Records on August 26th.

I grew up on MTV videos, when the first time you heard the song was when the video premiered. So it’s interesting for me to see the video after I’ve heard the song many times. It’s cool to see the scenario and story created and see the band’s personality. The video is quirky and fun and I hope you enjoy it.

Loser’s Way Home – Place of No Return

Place of No Return from Loser’s Way Home on Vimeo.

Loser’s Way Home is an Arizona-based indie rock band with a new EP out July 22 called Songs for the Rest of Us. Place of No Return is the first single off the EP. The lyrics are moving and thoughtful, yet hopeful despite telling the story and aftermath of a breakup delicately.

Their sound is warmly familiar yet and musically challenging. Their innovative approach to their content, which often includes effect laden acoustic instruments and multiform harmonies, carves out a distinct sonic niche in the world of confessional folk rock. Most striking is their use of violin and mandolin throughout the exquisitely produced and uplifting EP.

Formed in Memphis, they are Randall Downs (principle songwriter, guitar, lead vocals) Steven Bowman (violin, piano, mandolin, vocals) Rex Gorman (bass, keys, vocals) and Ryan Veach (drums).

Love Songs for the Rest of Us was produced by Jars of Clay guitarist Matthew Odmark and finds the band grounded in more emotional territory with the majority of the material focusing on the cause and effects of true love. Their unique vision had resulted in their most personal work to date.

Buy it on iTunes on July 22.

Weslynn – Strange Feelings (Exclusive Single Premiere)

weslynnpromo

I’m so excited to share the exclusive premiere of indie rock band Weslynn’s single “Strange Feelings.” It is the first single from Weslynn’s upcoming EP, soon to be released by For Emily Records.

“Strange Feelings” has a retro pop feel, while sounding like the perfect song for these hot summer days. It reminds me of the innocence of young love and what that evokes, expressed smoothly and sweetly by lead vocalist Jared Geyer.

Weslynn is based in Phoenix, AZ and are Jared Geyer (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard) Greg Olin (Guitar) Kevin Holmes (Drums) and Adam Simons (Guitar.) Weslynn was formed by longtime friends and Arizona State schoolmates in 2013. They draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, and Queen.

“Strange Feelings” will be available Friday, July 8th, and you can preview it today on SoundCloud below, then pick it up on iTunes.

Lyrics
STRANGE FEELINGS:

I got strange feelings
When I saw your picture
Like a folded corner
In a book I’ve read before
Strange feelings
These bones seem to know you
Another life, another station, lost in translation,
Maybe I erased you
For good reason

Strange feelings

Love brings frustration
Take a bow to the mountain
Remember me?
Living in a memory

I got strange feelings
When I asked you to dance
Barefoot on the floorboards,
Played your old records,
Like it was our last

Strange feelings

Out of a daydream, it’s coming over me
Tossing and turning in my sleep
Lost in this feeling, coming over me, over me

(I feel it) Strange feelings
(I feel it) so strange
(I feel it) strange feelings, yeah

JR Richards – Come To Tears

jrrichards
“Come To Tears” was inspired by and dedicated to my son Dom. My heart and prayers go out to all children, teenagers, young adults and their families that are affected by childhood onset illnesses. We know first hand how brutal, difficult and lonely the path is. My wife, Min, and I feel very strongly that we want to end the stigma attached to mental illness. We feel together we can make a huge difference. It’s time to talk about it. Share it. Empathize with people struggling. Understand. Love and give.
Come To Tears is about the terrifying psychosis that my son has and does experience. We are forever hopeful for a bright future and the tremendous advances being made in research and the development of therapies.
Together we are one.

COME TO TEARS
By JR Richards

and I surrender
to the loneliness the rain
all the voices
are coming back again
and I’m forever lost in-between

I’ll surrender
to the dark inside of me
I have my reasons
I’m the monster in this dream
so forever from me I will run

“I see you”
the devils sing to terrify
so all my angels run
to the dark side soon now all the LOVE is gone
can I carry on?
or shall I run and hide away?
run away tonight

I’ll surrender
to the shadows on the wall
it seems to reason
that so many tears must fall
I am unwell and afraid..

“I see you”
The voices sing to terrify
as my angels run
in a mad place far away the LOVE is gone
and now everyone
has run away from me
run away tonight

uh-oh my world is gone
and I can not be seen
uh oh its COME TO TEARS
and now I’m in-between
uh oh who I am is gone
when will I be free?
uh-oh uh-oh
will I ever be LOVED?
when will I be free?
when will I be LOVED?

I’ve lost myself
